Positioned minutes from I-65 and Promenade Alabaster shopping center, the golf community of Ballantrae is nested comfortably within the city of Pelham, Alabama. The City of Pelham, originally called Shelbyville, was founded in 1964 with a population of less than 700. After the American Civil War, the area was renamed in honor of an American Civil War officer John Pelham, a Civil War hero for the Confederacy who fought in more than 60 battles.

Pelham Ridge Elementary School will sit atop roughly 22 acres of land on Applegate Parkway and is set to open for the 2016-2017 academic year. Pelham Ridge Elementary School is one of several new schools forming in the Pelham City School System. Pelham Park Middle School will be constructed on land in Pelham City Park and will open in 2017.
