Amazon picks Bessemer

Amazon picks Bessemer for their first fulfillment center in Alabama.  Last Friday the city of Bessemer publicly announced plans for the first Alabama fulfillment center that will be located in Bessemer to a crowd of thrilled citizens and community leaders. The news is exciting because it will bring more than 1,500 jobs to Bessemer. The city’s incentives will not start until Amazon reaches 1,500 jobs. With Amazon’s move Bessemer is looking at adding at least 1,500 jobs. However, the City of Bessemer is anticipating about 3,000 jobs when Amazon’s facility is up and running. Great things are going on in the city of Bessemer as the Amazon jobs will add to the 700 jobs Dollar General brought in 2010. Recently the city of Bessemer has been tremendously successful at attracting companies to move to Bessemer. Companies like Milo’s, Blox, Steyr Arms, and Flex-N-Gate Corporation.

Amazon’s starting pay is over $14 an hour. Amazon boasts great incentives like the incentive for high school graduates. If a high school graduate completes one year of employment with Amazon they will receive $3,000 for the next four years to further their education. A student can take that money and further their education at colleges like Lawson State Community College in Bessemer and graduate from the top nursing program in Alabama.

Amazon’s $325 million will be the largest single investment in the city of Bessemer’s history. All the companies mentioned over the last eight years will bring an impressive total of $600 million dollars to the city of Bessemer. $600,000,000 that will change the landscape of Bessemer.

The City of Pelham will host an increase peace dinner at the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena on Monday, August 8th at 6:00 p.m. Come out and show your support for Pelham’s officers, dispatchers, and magistrates in a relaxed safe environment to foster our sense of community and pride in Pelham.  The Pelham law enforcement officers and their families will enjoy a free catered meal beginning at 6:00 p.m. Texas Roadhouse will sell meals outside the Civic Complex for the public to purchase, bring in and dine with officers friends and neighbors. Registration for Pelham Election on August 23

July 12th, 2016

The city of Pelham will have a municipal election August 23, 2016 at the Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena. The Pelham election will be from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Register

The last day to register to vote in the municipal election is August 8, 2016. All registered voters currently residing in the Pelham city limits for 30 days or longer immediately prior to Election Day will be eligible to vote.  Residents can check and update their voter registration and download forms online.  Contact the Shelby County Board of Registrars at 669-3913 or visit their website or the Secretary of State’s website.

Voter Registration Forms are also available at the Pelham Public Library.  Applicants for the Pelham election must be a U.S. citizen and at least eighteen (18) years old.

Absentee Ballot 

The last day to apply for a regular absentee ballot is August 18, 2016. Absentee ballot application forms are available from the Absentee Election Manager (City Clerk) or can be downloaded from the Secretary of State’s office Qualified voters who will be out of town on election day and those who cannot go to the polling place because of illness or infirmity or a work shift that coincides with the poll hours may apply for an absentee ballot.  An Application for Absentee Ballot Form can be obtained at Pelham City Hall or by calling the city clerk at 620-6402. Forms can be downloaded from the Secretary of State’s officeAugust 18, 2016 at 5 p.m. is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot for the August 23, 2016 election. The deadline is five days prior to the election. After applying to vote absentee and the ballots are available, you may bring your completed application to the Absentee Election Manger (City Clerk’s Office) or come in and fill out an application there. You must show a photo ID. After the application is checked and approved, you can receive your ballot while you are at city hall. If the application is sent through the mail, your ballot will be mailed within one business day to the address you put on the application.

You can have someone pick up your application for the Pelham election. However, you must return the completed application yourself or place it in the mail. Only one application per envelope is allowed. Applications can also be mailed to those who request one by calling the city clerk at 620-6402.
