Schools in the area include Valley Elementary School, Valley Intermediate School, Riverchase Middle School, and Pelham High School. Pelham Ridge Elementary School will sit atop roughly 22 acres of land on Applegate Parkway and is set to open for the 2016-2017 academic year. Pelham Ridge Elementary School is one of several new schools forming in the Pelham City School System. Pelham Park Middle School will be constructed on land in Pelham City Park and will open in 2017. Weatherly students that are served by Alabaster City Schools go to Creek View Elementary School, Thompson Intermediate School, Thompson Middle School, and Thompson High School. The new Thompson High School is expected to be completed July 17 and will be located on 128 acres north of Kent Dairy Road and east of Highway 17. The new Thompson High School will feature 379,000 square feet, athletic fields and the district’s new career tech facilities.
There are plenty of places to enjoy a round of golf, but perhaps one of the most spectacular is Ballantrae Golf Club, a semi-private course enjoyed by residents and visitors. Also in Pelham you’ll find Oak Mountain State Park, the largest state park in Alabama with close to 10,000 acres and The Oaks Golf course, petting farm and stables, campgrounds, Treetop Nature Trail, Alabama Wildlife Center, and Flipside Watersports. In addition to the Ballantrae Golf Club, the city offers the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena – home to the Pelham Youth Hockey League and the University of Alabama’s Frozen Tide, Pelham Racquet Club, Pelham Library and Senior Center, and a plethora of hotels, restaurants, and shops, as well as nearby Oak Mountain State Park.
The Pelham Racquet Club is a public tennis facility located just minutes away that consists of 20 clay courts and 5 hard courts. All tennis courts at the Pelham Racquet Club feature above tournament grade lighting. The entire tennis facility is beautifully landscaped on three tiers providing function and visibility to all courts.
